H&S Updates, HR Updates

City News April 2012

As we enter the second quarter of 2012, Christmas and the New Year seem long forgotten, however the optimism and positive approach to 2012 from our clients and the businesses we meet daily is still evident despite the ‘Double Dip’ confirmation and the media’s pursuit of bad news stories for UK Ltd. Unfortunately not all businesses have been able to leverage their positive approach and optimism and in some cases, shrinkage of headcounts and a reduction in spends have been necessary.

Against this background of uncertainty and continued challenges it’s not surprising that stress is now recognised as the main contributor to long-term sickness, overtaking musculoskeletal and acute medical conditions as the main contributors. How we respond to this and manage the issue if it occurs is as important as adopting strategies to avoid this becoming an issue for your business. We offer some facts and solutions later in this newsletter.

Since January we have also experienced an increase in the number of enquiries questioning the issues surrounding asbestos awareness refresher training. This is still an ongoing issue for many clients across all sectors; litigation cases continue to increase and the subject is particularly relevant still in Schools. Read our update in the Health and Safety section and contact us if you still have any worries.

Less than 90 days to go before the London Olympic Games and we look forward to working with you all to plan and manage the lead-in and the period of time during the Olympics to ensure that we can all enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience to the full whilst also focusing on our continued business needs and objectives.
