We would like to introduce Deborah as our specialist education team member, please read through her impressive biography. She has an extensive background in education and has been awarded an OBE for her services to Education.
Deborah Leek-Bailey OBE
Deborah has been national Chairman of the Independent
Schools Association, on the board of the Independent Schools Council and Chaired the Cross Association Leadership group (CAL), She commenced chairmanship of the Department for Education ISSP (Independent state School Partnership) forum in the autumn of 2013, at the request of Lord Nash. She is also Vice President of ISA and a trustee of Prince William’s charity, Child Bereavement UK.
Widely invited to speak, her style is open and engaging. She welcomes discussion and questions, and is clearly passionate about standards in education and the role which leadership plays in achieving this.
Deborah received the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the New Year’s Honours List 2013 for her services to education. She was awarded the lifetime Millennium Award for her ground-breaking work in South Africa “strengthening and enriching the local community, whilst effecting positive global social change, in the areas of HIV and AIDS awareness”.
In the UK, she received a “London for Londoners Award” for making an outstanding contribution to the lives of young people in London and is an honorary member of the Royal Society of Arts.
An adjudicator of the Independent School Awards, school inspector, education advisor to the Independent Schools magazine and Vice President of the ISA, Deborah has extensive leadership experience in both the maintained and independent school sectors. For 15 years, she was Headteacher of Babington House School in Kent, leading it from “Satisfactory” to “Excellent” in all areas of school life”. (ISI)
Deborah has written widely on the subjects of Independent/ State school partnership projects, vulnerable children, adoption and bereavement and is experienced in the realm of leadership and change management.
