As of 2 October 2014 fathers and partners of pregnant women now have the right to take time off in order to accompany the expectant mothers at their antenatal appointments. The time off will be allowed for up to 2 appointments and will be unpaid.
This is a conscious effort by the government to encourage involvement of fathers from an early stage. This will allow fathers the statutory right to time off for appointments that could have previously been refused by their employer.
