The Health & Safety Executive is asking for your input into its proposed changes to its guidance on Risk Assessments. We all know that many businesses see Health & Safety as a time consuming burden and the HSE recognises that it needs to make things as clear and simple as possible, whilst at the same time ensuring that the guidance it puts in place is practical, responsible and manageable.
Before it publishes its new guidance, the HSE is asking business owners and managers to read the draft guidance and complete a short questionnaire. It stresses that a risk assessment is not about creating huge amounts of paperwork, but about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your work place. It is aiming to put more emphasis on controlling risk, and less on written assessments, without reducing standards. A risk assessment should be part of the day-to-day management of any business, but does not need to be a specific “risk assessment” document – it can be included within your Health & Safety or HR policies.

Risk assessments are essential to protect your business and it is important that your staff and your clients both feel that health & safety is under control whilst at your place of work. We offer Risk Assessment training at our office in Colchester, or on your premises, which will allow your staff to carefully examine what could cause harm to anyone in the workplace, weigh up the risks and identify if enough has been done to protect people from the potential hazards around them.
If you have any questions regarding risk assessments or any of your Health & Safety responsibilities, or you feel your business could benefit from our Risk Assessment training, please contact one of our qualified Health & Safety experts.
