What is included in a Health & Safety Audit?

Health and Safety audits are a proactive management tool used to identify the effectiveness of an organisation’s internal health and safety systems in the workplace. This process will ensure that your business is in line with the current health & safety regulations as well as evaluate how well you are following the processes as an organisation.

When you choose to work with Park City, you will be allocated a Health & Safety Business Partner who will conduct the audit on your premises. We will come on-site and survey your workplace and business activities to identify all the risks and hazards to your organisation and staff.

Based on the specialist’s findings, a bespoke report will be drawn up highlighting all the hazards found in your workplace. We will be offering you bespoke advice, telling you how to remove or manage the identified risks in the workplace. Your Business Partner will talk you through the document, informing you how you can minimise the risks and create a safer environment. If in doubt, we are at the end of the phone or email to answer any questions you may have.

What to expect

Our Health & Safety Business Partners will visit your premises and conduct a Health & Safety Audit. This is a thorough review of your premises and activities to identify any areas of non-compliance, highlighting possible risks to which your working environment may be vulnerable including identification of appropriate health and safety signage for your building/buildings as required by law. In addition, we will also complete a Fire Audit on the same day.

A printed report will subsequently be sent to you with the findings and recommendations highlighted by the audits outlining the action you will need to take to comply with current legislation

Frequently Asked Questions

Health and Safety risk assessments are a process that is carried out to identify, examine, control and eliminate health & safety hazards in the workplace. Health & Safety risk assessments are a legal requirement and as a responsible employer, you will need to complete these and review them at least once per year. Our team will work closely with you to assist in the drafting of your risk assessments, guiding you through the whole process to make sure you understand the actions that need to be taken for your organisation to comply with the law. Our one-day Risk Assessment practical training program will support your team’s ability to draft and manage these on an ongoing basis. We will help you use Risk Assessments to create safe systems of work.

Risk assessments in the workplace are a crucial process that ensures you are complying with the law, whilst keeping your employees safe at work. Health & Safety risk assessments are important because they help you identify the hazards in your organisation and the potential harm they could cause to your employees. Suggestions will be made by your business partner to eliminate these hazards or manage and control the risks, helping you comply with the law moving forward.

As a responsible employer, you must protect your employees from harm in the workplace. Risk Assessments are the HSE’s recognised way to inform your employees of the risks and what they should do to minimise the risks. In most cases, the Risk Assessments then allow a safe system of work to be created and shared with the staff exposed to the risks. It would be best practice to review all risk assessments and safe systems of work at least once a year.

Your business partner at Park City can deliver one-day practical training programmes, working with a selected team to complete your health & safety risk assessments. We will jointly identify the hazards in the workplace and how likely it is for someone to get injured. From we will agree on which Risk Assessments to complete as a priority. This approach adds the maximum value as the Risk Assessments produced by your team with our support are more readily accepted by the staff, thus increasing the ownership of day-to-day health and safety management. When was the last time you had a health & safety risk assessment review at your business’s premises? If the answer is over a year ago, then act now and get in touch.

A typical health and safety audit at Park City Consulting includes the following:

Your Health & Safety Business Partner will be checking your company documentation to make sure you have a suitable health and safety policy in place, as well as sufficient arrangements in place throughout the organisation. Statutory documents required are also reviewed to check they are valid and in date. From here, the specialist will be working closely with your management team to understand your business activities and the way it runs on a deeper level.

Health and Safety policies are in place to ensure your organisation and everyone who works there is safe in the workplace, our consultant will be checking to see whether you are following these policies closely.

The level of competency required will be reviewed along with your training provision for Health and Safety.

Your Business Partner will also complete a Fire Audit on the same day, assessing fire doors, housekeeping, fire alarms, evacuation drills and fire extinguisher provision.

Based on the audit, your specialist will deliver their feedback, with suggestions on how you can improve the health and safety in your organisation in the form of a prioritised report which becomes your management plan to close non-compliance gaps and improve the management and control of Health and Safety.

There is a legal requirement to monitor health and safety arrangements. Audits form an important part of the monitoring process which also includes the day-to-day monitoring of safe working practices carried out by Managers.

Audits are carried out by an independent competent person and look at the complete health and safety management system by inspection of health and safety documents, interviews with staff at all levels, and observation of practices and conditions. The health and safety standards achieved by the company are compared to the standards which meet legal compliance. Non-compliance will be reported to the company using a traffic light system to enable the company to take appropriate action to achieve compliance.
