Redundancy over the holiday period
It has been a difficult year at Santa’s Grotto Ltd this year, how have you coped?
The recession has hit hard in Lapland and Santa has to make some tough decisions. What should he do?
- Make sure all other options to redundancy have been considered (flexible working, cut back overtime, reduce working hours)
- Consultation period – if more than 20 redundancies are occurring a consultation period must be started at least 30 days before the first dismissal takes effect.
- Selection of those to be let go must be based on objective and measurable criteria
- At the dismissal meeting – remember the right to appeal, notice periods, holiday pay and statutory redundancy pay.
