As Vice Chairman of Essex County Council Employment and Skills Board, Tim Price presented an update to 40 Chamber members at First Site in Colchester.
Members were informed of the progress the Business lead board has made since its creation by ECC this year.
Importantly, Tim updated members on the data available in the form of a Skills and Vacancy database, the result of 18 months of research by ECC and Essex University.
This data is being used to underpin the new initiatives the Board are creating to better align skill and training provision in Essex with the actual skills and jobs Essex Businesses need.
“The market for skills provision needs to be demand lead and not supply lead, as it is now”. The current system for course provision and training qualifications does not meet current Essex Business needs”.
Apart from focusing on seven growth sectors in Essex and the training provision required by businesses, the Board are also supporting initiatives in Schools to broaden students career knowledge and local business involvement.
